Shapetec was formed in 2004 with the sole intention to create & profile surfboard shapes on our Tekcel routing machine. Since then the company has diversified and now covers a wider area of machining, capable of cutting many different materials into almost any shape. Recent dealings with companies such as Riviera & Dick Johnson racing have expanded our portfolio further and enabled us access to a more professional and diverse area which was previously unattainable. Should you require any services which are not currently listed please contact us on enquiries@shapetec.com.au and we will respond to your email as soon as possible.

Data from existing surfboards is processed with task specific software to create a computer model with specific design parameters. These parameters can be modified and adapted where appropriate to meet particular design requirements. The resulting geometry allows for control of very complex multi-curve surfaces on the surfboard, and consequently allows for the manipulation of any of the board sectors, such as rail shape, chimes, concaves and channels. The resulting "Smart Models" have the ability to be manipulated into thousands of unique models. The company has the ability to analyze these models in terms of their curve composition using fluid diagnostic software, allowing for the analysis of specifics such as nose lift, water entry, volume displacement and drag coefficients.
The model is then machined from a "blank" using our Tekcel routing maching. This process creates a board which is 95% complete. The board is then "touched up" by professional shapers and designers to create a finished product.
Surfboard profiles start from $30+GST.
Shapetec utilizes the following software systems to create files which may then be used by our Tekcel routing machine - ProE, Wildfire, Rhino and Profile Lab. We are able to work from sketches, Cad Drawings, surface and solid models or finished components. File types accepted are cad, nurbs and parametric file formats e.g. .stl, .iges, .dxf, .prt.
3D modelling starts from $80+GST per hour.
Shapetec can design from scratch, or import your mould to develop a unique multi layer system used in both small to large plug creation for tooling mould to parts. The required plug is sliced into layers within the software environment, then machined. Accuracy by machining ensures a perfect fit between the multiple layers. The material is then fared by hand to blend the layers together. Choices of materials available used for general 3d rapid prototypes are PU, EPS, PE, and EVA foams.
A system of epoxy, polyurethane and polyester is then used to build a hard shell on the plugged surface, which is then finished to the clients requirements. e.g. foam prototype, 1200# wet rubbed or 2 pac.
Plugs start from $1000+GST per square metre.
2d panel component cutting from foam, timber and plastic sheets are also available. Components are multi nested for maximum parts return.
Prices available upon application.
