Research and Development is the key to the 'Holy Grail' of Surfboards. Dale Chapman Surf Design, as part of its ongoing push for innovation, design and quality, entered the surfing technology arena. To remain competitive, Dale Chapman Surf Designs has followed the Surf Industries technological development, involving design software and computer profiling machines.

These systems rely on three stages:

At Chapman Design, we will move further into the research and development field with sophisticated modeling and diagnostic software. Data will be recorded from existing surfboards and recorded in Modeling Software which is then converted into series of cloud points called 'Design Geometry'.

This geometry allows control of very complex multi curve surfaces on the surfboard. It allows the manipulation of any of the boards sectors, for example; rail shape, chimes, concaves and channels.

The resulting "Smart Models" will have the ability to be manipulated into thousands of unique models. We will also have the ability to analyze these models, in their curve composition, using fluid diagnostic software. This will provide clients with optimum surfboard performance.

The fluid software will allow the analyzing of specifics such as; Nose lift, water entry, volume, displacement, drag coefficients.

Most of the Surfboard Manufacturing Industry seems more intent on output volume using large production machines. Our direction will cater to desired volumes; however we will always be targeting the creation of a superior surfboard in Quality, Design and Performance.
